Abstract
The discoid type was observed frequently in ponds with floodwater depth of about 1.8 cm. (range 1.0 - 2.5 cm.) and with rice plants. On the otherhand, the flat type was observed in desiccated or dried-up with no vegetation. Moisture content of the "D" type was 96.56% while that "F" type was 94.64% Microscopic observations showed the percent heterocyst frequency was higher in the "D" form (average of 8.46%) than in the "F" form (average of 4.64%). Filament length was likewise higher in the former type coverage of 25 cells/filament compared to the latter coverage of 14 cells/filament). the study showed that there was a direct relationship between the two macrocoloby forms of Nostoc Vauch. to its moisture content and its heterocyst frequency.
