Abstract
GUEVARA, CAESAR AN. 1982. In Vitro Culturing, of Human Chronic Granulocytic Leukemia Cells in Coconut ( Cocos nucifera) Water-Based Media. An undergraduate thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Biology, under Dr. William G. Padolina, the University of the Philippines at Los Banos, First Semester 1982.
In vitro culturing of human chronic granulocytic leukemia within a 72-hour period showed a significant cell viability by dye exclusion index as the Hank's Balanced Salt Solution pro-portion in devised culture media was increased. However, pure coconut water alone with 10% fetal calf serum added cannot sup-port cell viability and proliferation as determined by statistical analysis. It is concluded that pure coconut water alone cannot support cell viability of chronic granulocytic leukemia and such result may be due to the presence of an inhibitor in pure coconut water.
