The three age groups. 20, 37, and 55 years old male humans exhibited leukocytes' mitotic indices of 0.230, 0 140, and 0 120, respectively. When cultured leukocytes were treated with I% coffee extracts, the manifested mitotic indices were 0.160, 0.120, and 0 100, respectively Statistical analyses revealed highly significant decreasing trends in the cell proliferation with age and coffee treatments. In terms of chromosomal aberrations, frequencies of 0.030, 0.100, and 0.090 for gaps and 0.050, 0.090, and 0.090 for breaks were observed from 20, 37, and 55 years old, respectively. When the cultured leukocytes were treated with 1% coffee extracts, the observed frequencies for gaps were 0 100, 0.080, 0.060 and for breaks were 0.080, 0.060, and 0.160, respectively. Statistical analyses showed no significant increases in the chromatid gaps and breaks with age. However, with coffee treatment, a significant increase in chromatid breakage but not in gaps were observed Baseline frequencies of 0.000, 0.090, and 0.080 and coffee-induced j frequencies of 0.060, 0.070, and 0.090 for loose sister chromatids were found in the cultured leukocytes of 20, 37, and 55 years old, respectively. Statistically, age and coffee treatments showed no significant effects in loose sister chromatid pairing. The observed frequencies of chromosome condensation were 0.180, 0.040, and 0 190 from different age groups (20, 37, and 55 years old, respectively) and 0.170, 0.260, and 0.470, respectively when treated with 1% coffee extracts. Statistics of data showed significant effects of age and coffee treatment, on the formation of chromosome condensation in leukocytes. Leukocytes treated with 5% coffee exhibited shrinkage or cell death
