Abstract

LEDESMA, MARIA GEMMA P. University of the Philippines at Los Banos, October 1987. Determination of cellulosic structure differences between blast (Pyricularia oryzae) resistant and susceptible rice varieties using Penicillium funiculosum. Adviser: Dr. Saturnina C. Halos

This study was conducted to determine cellulosic structure differences between rice straw of blast resistant and susceptible rice varieties by using P. funiculosum. Statistical analysis showed significant differences in the FPase activities between the two treatments. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of the enzymes showed six bands per sample. All bands except for band five have no significant differences in their relative mobilities. This difference in Rf values of band five is significant within treatments only and not bet-ween treatments. At this stage of the study, it is possible that there are cellulosic structure differences between the treatments but no definite conclusions can be made since results are not sufficient enough. Therefore, it is recommended that further studies should be conducted.
