Fifty-eight plant species representing 46 genera and 20 families were found growing on the western section of Taal Island. Among these plant species that occurred in the study area, Saccharum spontaneum, Canavalia macrocarpa, Leucaena leucocephala and Sesbania cannabina were the dominant plant species. Saccharum spontaneum together with EiLturus arborescens was also growing on solidified lava. Due to the relative abundance of Saccharum spontaneum and the ability of Pipturus arborescens to grow on solidified lava, both plants were subjected to acetylene reduction assay and they were found to be capable of dinitrogen fixation. Other plant families that were observed growing on the area were families Compositae, Papilionaceae, Mimosaceae and Moraceae. The remaining plant families were of low occurrence.
