Abstract

The major plant practice was conducted at San Pablo Manufacturing Corporation (SPMC) located at #140 Schetelig Avenue, San Pablo City, Laguna. SPMC started its business in the late 1940's.This independent company joined the Coconut Industry Investment Fund a conglomerate of CNO milling and trading companies based in the Philippines.The duration of the practicum was from April 12, 2007 to May 23, 2007, for a total of 240 hours. The trainee was assigned to the Quality Control/Research and Development laboratory. Various physical and chemical analyses for fats and oils were performed using the instruments and pieces of equipment available in the laboratory. The trainee also performed quality inspection of the packaging materials delivered before the company accepts them. He also performed the logging of orders before and after loading of products. The trainee observed and experienced the production of the quality products in the company. He learned the importance of quality and how it was pursued during processing. He performed various experiments; all the while recording and analyzing the results obtained.11e gained confidence and became equipped to enter the real world of food industry. He also learned how to relate to other personnels and how to adapt to a working environment. The theories and principles of Food Science and Technology that were learned in the University were applied in this plant practice.
