Abstract

The practicum was conducted at the Neste Quality Assurance Center (NQAC) of Nestle Philippines, Inc. Cabuyao Factory, the core factory for infant nutrition in ASEAN, from April to May 2012 for a period of 150 hrs. The student was assigned to the Pathogen Section of NQAC, focusing on the detection of Salmonella in samples. The student was exposed to every area of the Pathogen Section, from media preparation to the "5" Lab. The practicum enabled the student to gain experience in the microbial analysis of food products, raw materials, and environmental samples. The author also learned to deal with different people in a workplace and to be versatile and conduct proper self-management during work hours. Observations and comments on the training were made including the problems encountered as well as reports on possible solutions and recommendations.
