Abstract

Genetic diversity and the relationships of 36 accessions of Amaraminis sp. were investigated using Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA Polymerase Chain Reaction. Using 12 Operon primers, 14 i polymorphic hands were generated. Primer Di generated the most number of bands (18), while primer Oh produced the least number of bands (3). The banding patterns exhibited high levels of variation. A. hypochondriacus accessions have similar banding patterns using primers D1 and 04. These primers were able to differentiate the accessions of A. hypochondriacus from the other accessions. A. wicks accessions were distinguished using primer U.S. The accessions of A. tricolor, A. (Minus and A.caudams also showed variation in banding patterns. The dendrogram yielded 3 major clusters. The first duster consists of 24 accessions would include, A. hypochodriacus, A. dubms, A. tricolor, A. wrdis, A. earldoms and 9 unidentified accessions. The second cluster consists of A. candams, A. retrcillerus, and 2 unidentified accessions. The third cluster includes A. tricolor, A. atroinirpureus, and l unidentified Degree of polymorphism was high in A. tricolor (98.28), A. dubms (88.00), and A.caudatus (l6.92). A. hypochondriacus and A. viridis exhibited relatively low degree of polymorphism (56.10, 5).14, respectively). Using iaccard's similarity indices, A. hypochondriacus was found to be similar to A. dubms but distantiy related to A. mangostamis. A. tricolor was closely related to Amaramitus caudatus (u.295) and A. midis was related to A. retroflexus by 0.294. Using the generated banding patterns of the identified accessions and the .laccarci's simiiarity index. unknown accession 84 could possibly be A. hypochondriacus, f$3 an A. tricolor and B29 an A. viridis.
