ABSTRACT
Water quality was monitored for 17 months in the Putatan. Muntinlupa area of Laguna de Bay. the place where water is presently being abstracted for domestic use The parameters examined were water temperature. transparency for the physical; pH. dissolved oxygen. electroconductivity. salinity, alkalinity, hardness, orthophosphate and total phosphorus for the chemical: species identification. total algal density and biomass for the biological. Similarity index was also examined. For all parameters, the following were determined: means and ranges through time and the patterns established in terms of space and time. A correlation analysis was also done among variables. Water temperature was lowest from December to February. Lake waters were clearer in August to September which were influenced by electroconductivity and salinity. Values for pH had a narrow range of 5.7-7.5. Alkalinity was within the desired range of 20-200 mg CaCO3fL and above the productive 40 mg CaCO3/L. Hardness value indicated moderately soil to very hard water. Total phosphorus tended to exceed the water standard of 25 ug/L. Aficrocystis, Oscillatorin and Coscinodiscus— in that order, were the dominant phytoplankters. Microcystis exhibited peak densities in December to February. Oscillatoria and Coscinodiscus peaked in August to September. The month of May was dominated by Synechocystis,i the same time that productivity was highest. Productivity was lowest in February when licrocystis was most dense and water temperature was cooler. Biomass peaked in December and February when Abcmclistis population were highest. This month dipped May when Synechocystis was dominant and the lakewater had a relatively elevated temperature accompanied by high evaporation and low precipitation.
