Onion (Allium cepa L ) root tips were treated with 12 5%, 25%. 50%, and 75% bark decoctions of duhat (Syzygium jambolanum D C ). fixed in Farmer's solution (1:3, Glacial Acetic Acid. Ethyl alcohol) and examined using acetocarmine squash technique. Significant differences in the mitotic indices were obtained with concentrations of 75 %. 50 % and 12 5% at a = 0 05 indicating cytotoxic properties because it caused inhibition of cell division Chromosomal abnormalities observed were disturbed prophases and laggards but were statistically insignificant.
