Abstract
Red and white blood cells (RBC and WBC) of Jubenile and both sexes of adult blue headed fantail. Ehipidura cyaniceps cyaniceps Cassin sampled from 350 and 110 meters above sea level at Mt. Makiling were observed. The oval nucleated RBC measure 24.56 u in length and 13.0 u in width. The RBC counts of juveniles (4.84 millions/cubic milliliter) was significantly higher than those in the adults (1.61millions/cubic milliliter). The juvenile and the adult birds exhibited three different types of white blood cells. namely: a) granulocytes [consisting of heterophil (37.72 u). basophil (26.96 u) and eosinophil (32.52; b) lymphocytes (16.44 u) and c) monocytes (54.04 u). The WBC counts were insignificantly different between juveniles and adults sampled at different altitudes. The male and female birds have almost similar counts of WBC.
