Abstract

The banding patterns of esterase isozymes of ayungin in three size ranges were obtained. It showed multiplicity of banding patterns. The number of isozyme bands increased with the length of the fish. Size ranges B (71 mm to 80 mm) and C (81 mm to 90 mm) had eight esterase isozyme bands each while size range A (61 mm to 79 mm) had seven esterase isozyme bands. Esterase isozymes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 were present in all size ranges except for esterase isozyme 5 which was detected only in size ranges B and C. All bands exhibited different intensities ranging from barely detectable to highly intense.
