Abstract

The study used 18 years worth of data to determine the effects of the different factors of production to the rice output of Dasmariñas City, Cavite. The production function, based on Cobb-Douglas Production Function, was also estimated using a regression model. A test for appropriate functional form was also done in order to establish the best model to capture the effects of these factors of production. The different functional forms used are linear model, linear-logarithmic model, double logarithmic model, and logarithmic-linear model. The trends of each factor of production were also described in the study.

The study revealed that the usual trend of input use for rice production in Dasmariñas varies. For instance, the agricultural land used in rice production is decreasing while the average rainfall in the city followed a fluctuating trend. Meanwhile, the trends for average seed use and average fertilizer use followed their own trends where in some years, there are sudden increase and drops in usage.

In the determination of the effects of the factors of production in Dasmariñas the regression results show that the factors determined were not significant to the rice output of Dasmariñas City. This also resulted in the inability to estimate the production function of the rice output of the city.

Data in the locality shall be made more accessible and available in order to make studies more site-specific. In the analysis of the rice production situation in the city, data to be used shall be at the level of the municipality. This can be achieved if the data collection activities of the local government units are given priority. With the understanding of what is happening at the local level, policies and projects may address issues faced by the farmers head on while contributing to the development on a national scale.
