Abstract

Ube is a profitable crop to venture into with its high production returns and growing export market potential. It is a crop with many uses. The most famous of these is being an ingredients in many desserts and pastries. The crop registered a high annual growth rate of 15.35% from 1980 to 1987. It was ranked fourth to cassava in areas planted to root crops. At a national level, the total value of ube sold was recorded at P74,268,000 in 1986 with an area 5,590 hectares to the crop.

The study is an enterprise development plan which considered ube production for its tubers. As the name implies, the study encompasses the technical, managerial, marketing and financial aspects of ube production in a four hectare farm. The farm was located at Bgy. San Miguel, Maramag, Bukidnon. All the values that were used in the study are actual values taken from the area of production. Assumptions were on the amounts of certain material requirements, contingency costs and losses due to various events that may occur.

The researcher found that even with the use of sensitivity analysis by increasing cost by 5%, 10% and 15%, as well as decreasing price of the commodity by 10%, 20% and 30% that ube production remains profitable. The financial indicators used to measure profitability were the Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return and Benefit Cost Ratio. The NPV ranged from a value of P32,676.21 to 190,059.13. IRR had the lowest value of 46.48% and a highest value of 121.84%. BCR ranged from a low of 1.12% to a high of 1.80%.
