Abstract
Meiotic studies in the three species of Bougainvillea revealed a chromosome number of 2n=34 Meiosis 1 and 11 were erratic. Metaphase 1 showed Iaggards and non-congression of chromosomes Laggards were also observed at Anaphase I and Telophase I The same observations were noted at Meiosis II The highly irregular meiosis could explain the low pollen fertility in all three species which ranges from 72.26- 76 23%.
