Abstract

An ethnobiological survey for the presence of cloud rats was conducted on 152 households the University of the Philippines-Cornell University (UPCO) Housing. the UPLB Lower Forestry, and Upper Forestry Housing from May-October 2008. Sixty-one of the surveyed households in UPCO did not observe cloud rats in their area while three out of the 33 surveyed households in Lower Forestry confirmed that they have seen cloud rats in the vicinity of their houses. Six out of the 58 surveyed residents in the Upper Forestry confirmed cloud rats around their houses. Two households in the !rawer Forestry and four others in the Upper Forestry were further investigated to confirm current visitation of cloud rats by reconnaissance and trapping from December 2008 to March 2009. No cloud rats were caught in both sites of internist but sightings and second., data of cloud rats were obtained Observed occurrence of cloud rat was between 87 null to I 10 mess!. There were more observed cloud rats in areas where forest cover is more abundant regardless of its elevation. This may suggest that cloud rats may occur in lower elevations as long as enough tree cover is present.
