Abstract
Four species of house lizards, namely: H. frenatus, C. platyurus, G. mutilata and G. gecko, were identified in three sites in Mt. Makiling with elevations ranging from about 10 m., 50 m., and 160 m, above sea level. H. frenatus was the most dominant species preferring the lower elevations followed by C. Platyurus which prefers the higher elevations. G. mutilata and G. gecko were the least dominant species, with the former preferring the higher elevations while the latter was heard in the three sites but was captured only in the lower elevations. The study indicates no significant difference in the number of males from the number of females and almost half of the females were gravid with two eggs each found in the oviducts. The stomach content analysis indicates an insectivorous diet with some stones of unknown function. Morphological characteristics as basis for species dominance was found to be not significant. The possible causes for species dominance suggested in the study were altitudinal adaptation, volume of dietary requirements and behavioral characteristic of aggressiveness.
