Abstract

The study was undertaken to compare the behavior of Saccharum spontaneum pollen grains cultured in two different media, Murashige and Skoog's and White's. Parameters used In this study were cell viability and cell density. Important findings of this study are: 1. MS medium supported better growth of pollen grains compared to White's medium. 2. No morphological changes were observed on pollen grains cultured in both media. 3. After 12 days of culturing the pollen grains showed marked decrease in cell viability and density. On the basis of this study it is recommended that after 12 days of culturing, cells should be transferred to fresh medium for continued cell growth.
