Abstract

The Karyotype of Sorghum bicolor and sorghum halepense was done using the acetocarmine squash technique. The chromosome number of S. bicolor was 2n=20 and that of S. halopense was 2n=4x=40. The average relative lengths ranged from 0.03 to 07 for S. bicolor and 0.01 to 0.04 for S. helepense. Two groups of chromosome namely metacentric and submetacentric were observed in both species. The mitotic index was 32.20 percent for S. bicolor and 51.51 percent for S. halepense.
