Abstract
The effect of diazepam (Valium) concentration (0.075%), 0.050% and 0.025%) were studied using lymphocyte cultures obtained from five males and five females whose ages range from 18 to 20. Increased frequencies of aberrant chromosomes were observed with increased concentration of the drug, showing dose dependency of the action of the drug. The aberrations observed were gaps, chromatid and isochromatid breaks and loosely paired sister chromatids. The probable factors and mechanisms for the observed abnormalities were discussed.
