Abstract
The allelopathic potential of Portulaca oleracea L. was demonstrated through the effect of the crude lea extract on the inhibited germination of seeds (rice, pechay and mango) and the corresponding delay of the seedling development. Similar manifestations were shown when. the seeds (rice and radish) were germinated in garden so:; mined with the decomposed plants. This study also indicated that the above observations were probably due to the abnormal cell division and enhanced permeability of the cell membrane.
