Abstract
The activity of beta-amylase in crosses of Saccharum spontaneum L. and S. officinarum L. and their hybrids was determined. Results showed that the parents did not differ significantly in their enzyme activity. Variability in enzyme activity among the hybrids was observed. An attempt to correlate beta-amylase activity, chromosome number and brix was made. No apparent relationships were found.
