Abstract

To establish the patterns of inheritance of 13 traits namely hair whorl, earwax lccrumen), handedness, keloid, premature graying of hair, ability to move ears, presence of warts, relative length of first and second toe, toe space, varicose veins, sweaty hands, sweaty feet and migraine, questionnaires were distributed personally to Filipino residents in the areas of barangay Poblacion and Catalunan Grande, in Makati and Davao City, respectively. A total of 874 respondents were sampled. The gene and genotypic frequencies of the 13 traits were computed. Pedigrees of the families were obtained. Results showed that 12 out of the 13 traits follow autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance. These traits include hair whorl, cerumen, handedness, keloid formation, premature graying of hair, ability to move ears, relative length of first and second toe, toe space, varicose veins, sweaty hands, sweaty feet and migraine. Only the trait for presence of warts follows autosomal recessive pattern of inheritance. The dominant traits are clockwise hair whorl, wet canvas, right handedness, keloid former, premature graying of hair, ability to move ears, absence of warts, second toe longer than the first, presence of toe space, presence of varicose veins, sweaty hands, sweaty feet and migraine.
