Abstract
As agriculture expands, the need for agricultural inputs increases. Technological advancement continues to flourish throughout the years and improvement on the inputs required such as tools and equipments in a farm are manifested and now a must.
This is true for the poultry industry here in the Philippines, at present. There are lots of poultry raisers in the country but their suppliers of inputs, particularly the necessary materials needed, are minimal in number. There are cases when poultry raisers especially those from large-scale poultry, resort in importing from other countries due to their demand for certain tool or supplies which could not be met by local suppliers.
Among the companies who provide poultry equipment and supplies is JEMCY Enterprises. It is located in San Miguel, Santo Tomas, Batangas. Dr. Jesus Medina established this business to provide employment in the town and to grab the big opportunity for poultry equipment and supplies. Their products include poultry equipment and supplies, animal medicines, ready to lay pullets, and eggs.
This study was conducted to analyze the business operations of JEMCY Enterprises. Specifically, the study aimed to: 1) present and discuss a noteworthy business issue in JEMCY Enterprises which has company-wide implications; 2) present and evaluate the business environment affecting JEMCY Enterprises; 3) evaluate JEMCY Enterprises in terms of the four business functions namely marketing, production, personnel, and finance; 4) define the problem relevant to the business issue being studied; 5) generate and evaluate alternative solutions to the identified problem; 6) identify the best solution using appropriate criteria; and 7) design an implementation plan for the chosen solution To achieve this, the researcher assessed and evaluated the company in terms of the four business functions namely; marketing, production, personnel, and finance. Furthermore, the researcher also identified problems and proposed strategies to strengthen its business activities.
Using the Business Case Analysis Approach, the researcher identified the main problem of the company. The researcher found out that the company’s production could not cope up with the high demand of poultry raisers for poultry equipments and supplies. In order to maximize the profitability and potential of the company, the author formulated three following strategies: 1) Expand the production operation for poultry cages of JEMCY Enterprises and continue to purchase of egg trays, waterers, feeders and drinkers from suppliers, 2) Concentric diversification into the production of poultry supplies such as drinkers, waterers, feeders and egg trays, and 3) Toll manufacturing of the production of poultry cages and still continue to purchase the poultry supplies from the suppliers.
The tool used in the analysis of the alternatives for each functions is the decision criterion. The result of the analysis suggests that concentric diversification into the production of poultry supplies such as drinkers, waterers, feeders and egg trays is the best option for the company. Impact of this strategy to the four business functions was also evaluated.
