Abstract

Monitoring of quality of ground water at six sampling sites in Barangay Banay-Banay, Cabuyao, Laguna was done for six months. The chemical parameters analyzed were pH, chloride, total dissolved solids, total hardness, nitrate, sulfate, lead and major cations as calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium. The values of pH, chloride, total dissolved solids and total hardness ranged from 7.0 to 7.7, 7.00 to 44.99 ppm, 282 to 576 ppm and 104.24 to 250.30 ppm; respectively. Nitrate concentration was 3.09 to 10.31 ppm while sulfate concentration was from 2.66 to 25.93 ppm. The levels of major cations were 34.78 to 74.37 ppm for calcium, 8.20 to 25.76 ppm for magnesium, 1.49 to 2.97 ppm for potassium and 35.21 to 155.18 ppm for sodium. Lead was undetected in all of the samples analyzed. All values obtained fall within permissible limits set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Bureau of Food and Drugs for Class A(drinking water) and Class D(irrigation and industrial water supply). Except for pH, statistical analysis showed that all parameters were significantly different with respect to sampling sites and sampling time at 1% and 5% level by Analysis of Variance(ANOVA) and Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT), respectively.
