Abstract
Globulin storage protein of coconut residue sapal was isolated using 25 mM borate buffer (pH 8.6) containing 10% NaCI. Gel chromatography on Sephadex 0-100 exhibited a single peak with an estimated molecular weight of 150 ± 6 Ed. Electrophoretic property of the globulin under denaturing condition revealed two bands with relative mobilities of 0.84 and 0.93. The molecular weights of the bands were found to be 16,600 and 13,800 daltons, respectively. Solubility at different pHs (pH 1 to pH 12) gave values greater than 60% solubility except at its isoelectric pH where solubility dropped to about 1% (1.0% at pH 5 and 0.9% at pH 6).
