Abstract

The quantitative estimates of valine, lysine, histidine, and arginine were made based on the moisture-free, fat-free, and carbohydrate-free samples in grams per 16 s of nitrogen in the coconut hydrolyzate by the use of ion-exchange chromatography and the photometric ninhydrin method. The amino acids of the meat of the normal and makapuno" nuts were seen to have the same kinds of amino acids present but varied only in terms of quantity. These results were confirmed and identified by the use of the 2-dimensional thin layer chromatography. The other amino acids which were found to be present in both the "makapuno" and the normal nut were: methionine, leucine, iso-leucine, tyrosine, phenylalanine, aspartic acid, serine, threonine, glycine, proline, glutamic acid, alanine, and cystine.
