An isolate from the chloroform extract of the seed endosperms of Swietenia macrophylla King (common name: mahogany) demonstrated anti-mitotic activity in the genotoxicity assay using Allium cepa as a plant test system. Based on the analysis of IR and NMR data, the isolate was found to be a mixture of compounds containing carbon-carbon double bonds and ester groups in their structure.
