Abstract

The quality of wastewater from the Don Bosco Seminary College animal farm was evaluated using different parameters such as ; pH, temperature , total suspended solids, total phosphate, chloride and the major cations such as calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium.

Analysis of the major cations was carried out using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The concentrations of the total phosphate and chloride ions were determined by calorimetric and volumetric analysis, respectively. Temperature and pH readings were taken at the time of sampling.

Values of temperature and pH of the wastewater, ranged from 21°C to 23°C and 6.66 to 6.80, respectively . Total suspended solid ranged from 3.43 to 10.50 ppm. All are within the permissible level for irrigation.

The levels of the soluble salt in the wastewater ranged from 66.13 - 252.51 ppm for calcium, 100 -156.25 ppm for magnesium, 151.91 - 297.75 ppm for sodium and 100 -200 ppm for potassium.
