Abstract
Technology has played an important role in the success of human civilization. There are great opportunities for people who decide in investing with a given technology.
The microbial rennet is an effective solution produced in BIOTECH that has the capacity to coagulate milk into cheese at a lower cost. In comparison to its imported counterpart, the microbial rennet has the same quality of cheese produced. In line with this, a business plan was made for the BIOTECH-produced microbial rennet.
The business plan aimed to show the marketing, production, organizational, and financial viability of entering the business. It also aimed to compare the quality of cheese made from the competing coagulant with the product under scrutiny. Also, potential risks and difficulties involved were identified as well as the overview of the intended production process.
In the study, the researcher made use of interviews and product usage tests to qualified respondents and discovered the demand and direct and indirect competitors for the said product. The market size was also identified along with the scale of operations and preferences for the quality of cheese to be made. Marketing plan and action plans for the implementation for the proposed business were also developed.
For the production aspect, a plant layout was created in such a way that full capacity in producing the expected volume of rennet is possible. The equipment, machineries and laboratory materials were obtained from the technology developer. With these at hand, the schedule for batch production and sample prototype creation was realized. Staffing for the business is crucial to keep the operations of the firm running while presenting a compensation program for the employees.
In the financial aspect, the proposed business was found to be profitable and feasible even under different scenarios in the sensitivity analysis. The initial investment required, working capital and pre-operating expenses were determined before coming up with a projected income statement and cash flow. Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return and Payback period were the tools used in assessing the profitability and feasibility of the said venture.
With all the business functions tackled in the study, the results of the business plan will be implemented by the researcher who will take part in the AFNR project as an aspiring techno-entrepreneur.
With the completion of the business plan, the researcher was able to prove the viability of venturing to the proposed business with an estimated initial investment of P208,188, an NPV of P783,347, IRR of 33% and payback period of 2.8 years using 20% for cost of capital.
