A minor component and the major component of the crude chloroform extract of the leaves of Wedelia prostrata Jacquin were separated by column chromatography and analyzed for the presence of sesquiterpene lactones.
From IR, NMR, and UV spectral data used in this study, the major components are not sesquiterpene lactones. They seem to be saturated tetracyclic triterpecoid (TES-35p) .v.rith an ester side chain and a methyl group substituent; and a steroid (TES-1Wp) with an ester moiety and a methyl group substituent. The available data did not allow full elucidation of the structure of the compounds.
