Abstract

Bioassay-guided flash column chromatography of the acetone extract from a still coconut water broth culture of Trichoderma harzianum Rifai yielded a compound that was found to be active against Fusarium oxysporum, the causal organism of Fusarium wilt in solanaceous crops. The compound gave a clear zone of 24.0 ± 4.4 mm at 640 ppm concentration using a modified paper disc agar plate assay.

Preliminary spectroscopic analysis (IR, 1H and 13C NMR, MS, and UV) of this compound indicated that it is possibly a C-21 triene.

Two other fractions A4 and A6F2 were also found to be active against Fusarium oxysporum. These fractions gave clear zones of 11.3 ± 1.2 mm and 12.0 ± 0.8 mm, respectively.
