Semiconducting organic polymer, polythiophene, was prepared by chemical oxidation of thiophene with anhydrous ferric chloride. Electrical conductivities of the obtained polythiophene semiconductors were measured using a modified four-point probe. The oxidized polythiophene gave a conductivity of 3.39 t 0.07 E-7 mho/cm. The resulting polymer was reduced with hydrazine increasing its electrical conductivity to 4.96 ± 0.37 E-3 mho/cm. The current flow - voltage drop characteristics of the prepared polymers were ohmic. Further increase in electrical conductivity was observed after doping the reduced polythiophene with sodium nitrate and potassium chloride, both strong electrolytes. Doping increased the measured conductivity to 0.91 ± 0.06 mho/cm and 0.70 ± 0.16 mho/cm for KC1-doped and NaNO3-doped polythiophene, respectively. Current flow - voltage drop characteristics of the doped polythiophene were also ohmic.
