Abstract
The study was conducted to evaluate the College of Development Communication (CDC) website as an innovation using Rogers'(1962) five characteristics of an innovation adapted from his Diffusion of Innovative Theory. These characteristics were the relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability, and observability. Data were gathered using a five-page self-administered questionnaire. Fifty-five students enrolled in DEVC 150 (Scientific and Technical Information Processing) during the first semester of the academic year 2003-2004 served as respondents of the study. A five-point scale was used to rate the five characteristics of the CDC website. Data were analyzed using means, frequencies and percentages. Results revealed that the mean score for all of the characteristics was 3.4 suggesting the CDC website was satisfactory. Results showed that its relative advantage was associated with accessibility and being informative, compatibility with student-friendliness, complexity with lay-out and organization of contents and ease of browsing, triability with navigability and observability with interactivity. It is recommended that the CDC website be more updated so that it would have more advantage over the other information dissemination tools available in the College. It should be made more popular, it should adapt more the "academic approach"and suit both leisure and education more in order to be more compatible with the preferences of the users. In addition, the CDC website should be made more educational and practical. Comprehensiveness of the contents, as well as in the layout and organization of contents, should be considered. The CDC website should be easy to access for it to be tried out, and the server efficient enough for ease of navigability. The server should not be shut down during peak of the visiting hours. Lastly, the CDC website should be made more "worth-looking and developed for its observability.
