Abstract

This study was undertaken to determine the viewer's perception of STV 6 as an opinion leader in Daet, Camarines Norte. The researcher used questionnaire and interview methods. An analysis of the STV 6 brochure was also done. The findings of the study were the following: 1. On the frequency of watching, majority (53%) answered "sometimes". They claimed that most programs "were boring", that the host "were dull", that they "did not have time to watch"a TV show. 2. The most watched shows were Videoke and Hello, Camarines Norte. 3. The respondents watched videoke because the program was entertaining.4. Majority of the viewer-respondents suggested that the TV station must train host and VJ's with pleasing personality. 5. The viewers suggested that cultural shows and cartoons should also be shown. 6. About five out of six respondents agreed that the public affairs program (Hello, Camarines Norte and Dateline Camarines Norte) helped in the formation of public opinion. They claimed that Hello, Camarines Norte promoted awareness and was very imformative. STV 6 as an opinion leader has a long way to go. It could still evolve into one (opinion leader) given correct programming, and seasoned hosts with winning personality. The results of the study clearly indicated that the station has a lot of possibilities. It enjoys a big patronage and popularity in the community. But as to whether it would be able to do what it sets out to do is not difficult to answer. The station could still reach its glory. This is borne out by the viewership data. In order to improve the programming of the STV 6 and for programs to be attractive to the viewers and advertisers, the following are recommended : 1. Both hosts and VJ's were found wanting in skills. The TV station therefore, should send hosts and VJ's for training. 2. Production equipment and tools should be improved to make the reception sharp and clear.
