Abstract

The Philippines is considered as an agricultural country due to its landmass that is suitable for crop production. Yet the impoverished are in turmoil as the increasing price of rice, a staple food for the majority of Filipinos, has become unprocurable due to inflation. This study analyzed the corn and corn product consumption of household respondents in Cavite, as well as their preference for corn grits, in order to acquire data that can serve as a basis for food development of corn products which in turn become alternatives to rice. Majority of the population was willing to include corn products to their diet, while more than half of the population are open to the idea of replacing rice with corn grits. The findings in this study, which is situated specifically in Cavite, has no known research which can be compared to. However, similar studies that are situated in different regions of the Philippines show that Filipinos are willing to include corn products to their diet.
