Abstract

Calamba market effluent and tap water from a nearby bakery were monitored from April 27 to May ;23, 1978. The waters were analyzed for total hardness, chloride, pH, dissolved oxygen, total solids, chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrates and phosphate. Using Duncan's multiple range test, the site-to-site and day-to-day variation of all parameters were significant at the 51. level. Values for drinking water agreed with the limits set by t he standards for Drinking later. No predictable behavior was observed between rainfall end nutrient levels. Total hard-ness, total solids, COD, dissolved oxygen and nitrates were generally higher during market days. The effluent was laud to be suitable for irrigation purposes based on the chemical water quality.
