Abstract

The study was designed to evaluate the effects of increasing the amount of different additives such as mud press (MP), molasses (moL), and rice bran (RB) to Napier grass (NG) for silage making through solid state fermentation. The pH and crude protein (CP) content of initial and final conditions of silage were measured to determine the pH change and percent CP change of all silage. Results showed that adding 50g molasses to NG resulted to the highest pH decrease of 3.15, which was significantly different from the NG without additives (pH difference of 2.25) but statistically the same with 50g RB added to NG (pH difference of 2.95). On the other hand, adding 50g MP resulted to the lowest pH decrease of 2.1. The same result was observed in the CP change of the silage. Addition of 75g moL to NG resulted in significantly higher CP increase (32.25%) compared to NG without additives, but it was statistically the same with addition of 75 g RB to NG (CP increase of 28.62%), while addition of 75g MP to NG resulted to the lowest CP increase averaging to -10.6%.
