Abstract

Even though there are various identity formation models existing alongside homosexual individuals having to use the internet as a way to explore their sexuality. The framework for cybersexual identity has not been developed. In conducting this study, 20 Filipino male homosexuals in the Twitter alterverse participated via online interviews to explore and understand their cybersexual lived experiences. Interpretative phenomenological analysis and thematic analysis were used in this qualitative research design. The results of the study showed that there are 5 stages involved in the development of the cybersexual identity of the participants in the alter world; these are (1) Surviving the Reality, (2) Entering the Alter, (3) Experiencing the Alter, (4) Controlling the Alter, and lastly, (5) Linking the Alter and the Reality. A cybersexuality identity model is also devised based on the themes that emerged.
