Abstract

The primary purpose of this study is to determine the performance of agritourism farms in comparison with non-agritourism farms in Liliw, Laguna, Philippines. Mixed research methods were employed in gathering and analyzing the data about the profile of the sample agritourism and non-agritourism farms and its owner, components of the farm, farm tourism activities, the performance of the farm in terms of economic, social, and environmental aspect, and problems/challenges encountered by the farm. Results showed that agritourism farms were owned by older, married, and college graduate males who operates the business independently and are relatively new on the operation. Most of the farms were located in the upland areas in which they use small area for tourism purposes. The majority of the farms are engaged in crop production whereas activities such as farm visitations and pick-your-own activities are offered. Furthermore, results demonstrated that agritourism farms have an economic, social, and environmental advantage over non- agritourism farms as shown in a higher income generated, an improved quality of life and established relationships, and higher level of environmental awareness. On the other hand, high capital requirement, lack of government support, lack of facilities, changing climate and road access were the identified problems/challenges by the agritourism farms.
