Abstract

The required competencies for Industry 4.0 are cognitive, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and technological literacy. These are crucial for many senior high school (SHS) graduates as they enter the workforce. This study examines the readiness of SHS students in Los Baños, Laguna, to determine if the demands of Industry 4.0 are achievable. It assesses students' competency performance using Welch's t-test and ANOVA to evaluate group differences based on students' characteristics, followed by multiple linear regression (OLS) to identify factors influencing competency scores across separate models for each domain.

Based on the findings, self-reported readiness for Industry 4.0 is strongly correlated with better performance in interpersonal, intrapersonal, and technological literacy. However, a noticeable discrepancy exists in cognitive competencies, with only a few students meeting the required threshold, indicating that SHS students are underprepared for the cognitive demands. STEM students and public school students performed better in cognitive and technological literacy compared to their peers. Parental education, academic performance, access to technology, and work immersion also had a considerable impact.

The findings highlight the need for curriculum reforms to enhance cognitive skills, expand access to technology, and introduce targeted programs and work immersion opportunities to better prepare SHS students for the modern workforce. Additional academic support for underperforming students will help improve overall competencies.
