Abstract
Decapitation of a plant shoot creates disturbances in the normal physiological processes of the plant and causes cellular abnormalities. Cytological examination of the callus from the decapitated surface of the stem showed a number of abnormal cells; some of the cells had giant nuclei while others had two nuclei. Apparently the union of two nuclei before a cell wall is formed around each daughter nucleus, gives rise to a plant with twice the diploid number of chromosomes.
