Abstract

The vegetative and reproductive organs of the four species of Crotalaria namely, Crotalaria incana L., C. pallida Ait., C. juncea L., and C. spectabilis Roth have been the subject of study.

In this comparative study, some external structures of certain parts revealed usable differences necessary for separation and identification of every species. This also presents some observations on the salient gross morphological aspects from germination to maturity.

Similarities as well as differences with regards to their morphological aspects are observable among the species. The branching patterns.are sympodial in all the species. The venation patterns in the leaves and leaflets are all of bro- chidodromous type. The individual trichomes are uniseriate, simple and unbranched. The flowers are in terminal racemes.

Differences could be seen with respect to the length of the racemes, corolla, standard petals, calyx tubes, and pods. There were also variability in the relative sizes of seeds of the four species, so as their germination rate.
