Abstract

IR8-288-3 was observed to compete better with weeds than 04-63. In the former variety, a 20-day duration of weed control was all that was required to attain maximum straw and grain yields. On the other hand, C4-63 needed a 30-day duration of weed control to attain such yield levels. Competition with weeds for at least 40 and 50 days was found to affect significantly the straw and grain yields of 04-63, respectively. In IR8-288-3, it appears that weedy conditions exceeding even 60 days did not affect grain yield, but duration of weed competition exceeding 50 days reduced significantly its tillers and straw yield.
