Abstract
The research internship was conducted in Dairy Training and Research Institute – Nutrition and Reprobiotech Laboratory (NRL) and Animal Physiology Laboratory (APhyL) at Los Baños, Laguna from July 4, 2022 to August 4, 2022. The internship objective was to understand the theoretical bases and execute the major techniques or protocols involved in reproductive biotechnology for dairy cattle, perform activities and techniques employed in a molecular biological research laboratory, and provide a comprehensive report on observations, experiences, and other pertinent output that were generated during the research internship. The NRL served as a facility to learn the practices on reproductive biotechnology for cattle where the intern learned semen collection & evaluation, semen preparation with extender, semen straw cryopreservation, mouth micro pipetting, oocyte retrieval & cleaning, and vitrification of oocyte straws. The APhyL served as a facility to perform techniques like DNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction, and gel electrophoresis. After experiencing the different practices and techniques, the improvement on intern’s skills were used to draw conclusions along with the recommendations for each laboratory facility and reflection on the lessons learned during the whole course internship.
