Abstract

The National Crop Protection Center is mandated by the government to provide solutions related to pest and diseases through research, development and extension. During the research internship, active participation in the practices routinely performed in the laboratory and experiments involved in the on-going research projects in the Mycology Laboratory were conducted from October 1 to November 27, 2020. The activities include the application of Koch's postulates in disease diagnosis, in vitro assays of fungal and bacterial isolates against phytopathogenic fungi, and bioassay of entomopathogenic fungi against insect pests. During the internship, in-depth understanding of the principles and basis of the techniques performed were earned and best laboratory practices vital in plant pathology were observed. Moreover, the research internship provided first-hand experience in utilizing entomopathogenic fungi against insect pests, hence, broadening the intern's perception not only on mycology but also entomology. Overall, the research internship has provided the intern with both theoretical and practical knowledge in plant pathology, particularly in plant disease diagnosis, and biological control.
