Abstract

The major practicum was conducted at Universal Robina Corporation, an ISO and HACCP certified company that is commited in providing quality and safe Philippines-based food product. The company is involved in a range of food-related businesses, including the manufacture and distribution of branded consumer foods. The Calamba plant is located at KM 50 Barangay San Cristobal Calamba City, Laguna starting April 26 until May 17, 2013. The plant is divided into confectionary and beverage plant. The student is assigned on the later. A total of 150 hours was accomplished for the completion of the practicum. The student was assigned in four different areas such as in acceptance laboratory, microbiology laboratory, PET line quality assurance laboratory and main laboratory of the beverage plant. The student gained knowledge on the monitoring, calibration and operation of laboratory equipment, physicochemical and microbiological analyses of raw materials and finished goods. The practicum provided opportunities for the student to interact and develop proper attitude towards work and to co-workers. The working experience gained in the plant practice is a good preparation for professional practice as a food technologist.
