Abstract

The practicum was conducted at the Universal Robina Corporation, KM 50 Brgy. San Cristobal Calamba City, Laguna from April 17 - May 9, 2013. The URC Calamba Plant manufactures bottled beverages, snacks, and confectionaries. The student trainee was assigned in the Quality Assurance Laboratory of the Beverage Plant. Actual checking of delivered raw materials was done by the student under the direction of the QA officer. Materials were checked based on the specifications set by the company. The student also learned the essential principles regarding plant operations employed in beverage manufacturing such as pasteurization, blow molding, and water treatment. Methods done in monitoring the products' compliance to standards and specifications were also experienced firsthand under the supervision of the QA Officer. Strict implementation of cGMP regulations in the whole company were also observed while working inside the company. At the end of the plant practice, the student was able to relate the principles being taught in the University to the processes done in manufacturing beverages. Furthermore, the student gained additional knowledge and skills which helped her improve not only her knowledge on food processing but also the ability to maintain a pleasant working environment.
