Abstract

The author spent her extension internship at the National Programs Relations (NPR) of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Los Baños, Laguna. The author experienced web conferences, and meetings about 'IPaD' and 'Cybervillage?' projects. The said projects are under the Food Self-Sufficiency Program (FSSP) of the Department of Agriculture (DA). She also attended a meeting with the farmer-cooperators of the Cybervillge project in Victoria, Laguna. She has assisted in various office works like organizing files and data encoding. The author explained how extension delivery system works in a non-governmental unit like IRRI and the importance of ICT in improving agricultural extension delivery. She determined the role of women in Victoria, Laguna and found out that women are the financial managers and decision-makers in the farm. Furthermore, she identified the common problems encountered by farmers in Victoria and provided solutions through ICT-based tools and extension approaches. Policymakers should focus their efforts in instituting measures that addresses the needs of the women since they are important in the growth of the agricultural sector. From the internship, the author realized the value of planning the things you need to accomplish, flexibility when encountering difficult times in the field and self-confidence.
