Abstract

The practicum was conducted at Wyeth Philippines Inc.,- Pfizer Nutrition located at Canlubang Industrial Estate, Cabuyao, Laguna. The trainee was assigned in the Quality Operations Microbiology Laboratory from April 19 to May 14, 2011 with a total of 186 hours. The four-week internship consists of orientation, media preparation, environmental monitoring and observation of the test methods done in the analysis of raw materials, in-process and finished product samples. During the four weeks of the practicum, the trainee was oriented with the company’s current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Safety and Security. Prior to the actual training, the trainee was also exposed to the cGMP Microbiology Laboratory Orientation, along with Good Laboratory Practices and Laboratory Safety. Skills acquired from the University were applied by the trainee during the internship. Sophisticated equipment and advanced techniques were introduced to the trainee. The trainee had well-appreciated these modern equipment and techniques through hands-on training and proper application. The plant practice became the training ground of the author and offers an overview of how a Food Technologist could work in the industry in the near future.
